The Old Fort, a photo by alxpn on Flickr.
At the end
of XVIII century, after third Partition of Poland, the border between Russian
Empire and Habsburg Austria was very close to Dubno. For defense his western border the Russian
authority decided to build a fort here. The edifice was ready in 1890. At the beginning
of the WWI in 1915 Russian troops leave the fort without fighting. In summer
1916 during the Brusilov Offensive also known as the June Advance, the Russian
troops destroy by bombing the fort. At those fights had been killed 200 Austrian
soldiers, which were buried near the fort.
In 1920 during the Polish-Soviet war the Red
army couldn’t gain the fort. During World War II battle for the fort had
not been maintained.
