First bell in schools

The 1-st of September starts school lessons in our country. The first bell for beginners and last first bell for the graduating students. On the photo are brother and sister. She starts to learn but for her brother it is the last school year.

The Zarvanitsa Icon in Dubno

Small village of Zarvanitsa is located in Podolye region of Ukraine. The village is famous for Zarvanitskiy Mariyski Monastery – the main spiritual center of Greek-Catholic Church.

Legends say that after the devastation of Kyiv in 13th century one monk ran to the west of Ukraine and during his trip he fell asleep from exhaustion and had a dream about St. Virgin Mary blessing him. Next morning the monk went to the spring and saw an icon in it. After he washed his wounds from a long run in that spring they healed. This miracle made monk to create a cell in the nearest cave and put the icon in it.
For a long period of time many people went to that spring in order to be healed and monks can tell about many miracles that happened in the monastery. During the tour you will find out many interesting things about this monastery, general information about the religion in Ukraine, will be able to see the miracle-working icon and get some water from the famous spring.

Green Week

Green week (Зелені Свята) is an ancient Slavic fertility festival celebrated in early June and closely linked with the cult of the dead and the spring agricultural rites. It usually fell upon the Thursday of the Green Week (better known as Trinity Week in Ukraine and the Whitsuntide week in Britain). Its name is derived from the Slavic word for "seven", because the Green Week was the seventh (sometimes the eighth) week after Easter.

One my schoolmate lives in Crimea. Today I've asked him about situation in his own town. He has wrote that some people are in panic other ones have euphoria. But it is just dangerously to say something for support of Ukraine.

The Taras Shechenko monument in Dubno. There are portraits of three first killed people at Maidan in Kiev in front of the monument. The russian president Putin says that protesters at Maidan were only the West Ukrainian nationalists and radical elements. First had been killed Armenian Sergey Nigoyan. The guy has spoken ukrainian much better than members of the Yanoukovich government. The second had been killed Belorusian Michail Zhiznevsky. He also had been killed by a sniper. The 50-yaers old seismologist, candidate of science Yuri Verbitsky had been cruelly killed by bandits which collaborated with police.
